It seems like Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser could return to the lineup in the not-so-distant future.
Head coach Rick Tocchet gave a positive update on the sniper’s health today after practice. He thought Boeser might travel with the team when they head out east tomorrow, something the player would only do if he plans to play on that road trip.
“I think he’s coming on the trip,” said Tocchet about Boeser. “I haven’t talked to the medical staff yet. We have a meeting after this, and we decide whether he stays back to skate or not.”
“We still have to talk about that because we have [Jason Krog] our skills coach. If he can’t play on this trip, obviously he won’t come. But we’ll see how it goes day-to-day.”
It’s a six-game road trip before the Canucks return home to play the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 6.
Boeser hasn’t played since taking a nasty headshot from Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot. The NHL suspended Jeannot for three games for the dirty play.
While the Kings forward has since returned to play, Boeser remains out. However, Tocchet’s update today provides optimism the Canucks may get their winger back soon. It’s consistent with what the head coach said last night, where he didn’t name Boeser but implied a quick return for the star.
“We’re going to have some bodies coming back, whether it’s a week, two weeks, all-star people, that’s going to help,” said the coach after the team’s 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers.
The 27-year-old was having a strong start to the season before his injury. He has six goals and five assists for 11 points in 12 games thus far.
