Canucks call up two players day after trading Sprong

The Vancouver Canucks are filling holes on their roster following a trade last night that sent Daniel Sprong to the Seattle Kraken.

This morning, it was announced that forwards Nils Aman and Arshdeep Bains have been recalled from Abbotsford.

Aman was placed on waivers by the Canucks exactly one week ago. Many feared the penalty-killing specialist would get claimed, as he’s just 24 and carries a reasonable $825,000 cap hit through the 2025-26 season.

All 31 teams wound up passing, however, which was great news for the Canucks organization. He has two assists in four games this season.

As for Bains, he’s been up and down several times this season. The 23-year-old, who scored his first NHL goal precisely two weeks ago, has appeared in seven games with the Canucks in 2024-25. He’s also suited up for one in the AHL, where he had a goal and two helpers.

These moves come less than a day after Sprong was moved to the Kraken for future considerations. After being forced to wait on the free-agent market for a lot longer than anticipated, Sprong agreed to a one-year deal with the Canucks on July 20.

Given his offensive abilities, there was some excitement from Canucks fans about this signing. That excitement grew tremendously after a preseason highlight reel goal versus the Calgary Flames.

Sprong scored just one goal and three points in nine games, however, as he struggled to gain ice due to some alarming struggles on the defensive side of the puck.

The Canucks will be back in action tonight, as they are set to welcome the Edmonton Oilers to town. There has been no confirmation yet whether Aman or Bains will draw into the lineup.
