Canadian lottery winner treating son to new laptop for first year of university

An Ontario teacher is rejoicing after winning a top lottery prize.

Kitchener resident Chad Dubé is $50,000 richer after winning the Instant $50K Casino lottery game.

Dubé has been playing the lottery with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for about 25 years. He usually plays Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Lottario.

After winning $100, the father of two decided to treat himself to an Instant 50K Casino ticket — a game he’d never played before. This decision led Chad to his biggest win yet.

“I was enjoying a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning when I played my ticket and realized I’d won the top prize,” he recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

He was in such disbelief that he had to do a triple take.

“In shock, I checked my ticket multiple times. I couldn’t believe it! All I could say was, ‘Holy moly!’ I woke my girlfriend up, saying, ‘Babe! You have to wake up and check this.’ She confirmed we were both seeing the same thing. We were so excited and soaked in the moment together,” said Dubé.

“This win is a perfect blessing. I’m beyond grateful,” he added. “What a great way to start the new year!”

The teacher has some important plans for the windfall. He wants to complete some home renovations and take a trip with his family.

“I’ll buy my son a new laptop too, since he’ll be off to university next year,” Dubé concluded.

He bought the winning lottery ticket at Petro-Canada on Ottawa Street South in Kitchener.
