Canada made quite an impression on travellers this year, placing high on a new global ranking.
Wanderlust magazine has released its 23rd annual Reader Travel Awards, ranking the world’s most desirable countries and cities.
The publication says more than three million votes were cast by 168,000 passionate, globetrotting readers.
Canada got a silver medal for the most desirable country in the world, just below Australia, which took first place. The True North is in good company, with Japan sitting in third place and the US sitting in fourth.
This isn’t the only Canadian win on the list.
We also placed eighth in a ranking of most desirable destinations for adventure. New Zealand took the gold medal, followed by Peru and the US.
It’s no surprise that Canada made this list since we’re known for our outdoor activities, such as skiing and snowboarding, and boast cave slides and boating hot spots.
In another ranking that highlights Canada’s natural beauty, it placed eighth as a most desirable destination for wildlife and nature. The country is home to some of the best national parks in the world.
One Canadian province stood out to readers. British Columbia placed sixth for one of the most desirable regions in the world. The Galápagos Islands took home the gold, with the American South and Queensland, Australia, following closely behind.
Last but certainly not least, Vancouver was named the sixth most desirable city in the world. Tokyo placed first, followed by Singapore and Rio De Janeiro.
This isn’t the only global ranking that Canadian spots have landed in.
Several Canadian cities were named among the best in the world according to a recent ranking by Resonance Consultancy and Ipsos Research.
