Calgary Flames appear to be trading Kuzmenko to Philadelphia

Andrei Kuzmenko’s time with the Calgary Flames appears to be finished.

Many Flames fans were on high alert after Kuzmenko was a late-game scratch tonight versus the Anaheim Ducks. He had taken line rushes today during morning skate and looked like he was set to be in the lineup.

Shortly after the Flames and Ducks game got underway, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli tweeted that Kuzmenko appears to be heading to the Philadelphia Flyers.

It’s worth noting that the Flyers are also in action right now, which may be the reason this trade hasn’t been made official yet.

Kuzmenko’s struggles this season have been well documented. The 28-year-old had just one goal heading into the new year, but has been showing signs of life as of late with three goals and two helpers over his past five games.

“He’s a smart player, so sometimes he likes to have people around the net when he shoots the puck, because he feels like there’s a greater chance for it to go in, which totally makes sense,” Huska said about Kuzmenko earlier this month. “I look at his shot as a bit of a weapon that can create some second opportunities as well if it doesn’t happen to go in.”

Should this deal get confirmed, it seems as though the Flyers are rolling the dice that Kuzmenko can get back to his productive ways. He’s just two years removed from a 39-goal, 74-point season with the Vancouver Canucks, and scored 14 goals and 25 points in 29 games after being acquired by the Flames in a trade nearly one year ago to the day.

More to come…
