Blue Jays rookie invites a fan to Thanksgiving — but there’s a catch

While most Toronto Blue Jays fans probably aren’t celebrating Thanksgiving this week, one lucky supporter might get the chance to be invited to a family meal hosted by a player on the team.

But it’ll take a bit of a lucky pull — and perhaps quite a hefty investment to get there.

Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido is the protagonist of this story, and it turns out that his invite to Thanksgiving isn’t solely out of the goodness of his heart.

You see, Loperfido made his MLB debut earlier this season with the Houston Astros prior to his trade to Toronto. Like all other incoming MLB rookies, he received a specialty Topps-branded debut patch on his jersey that was later turned into a one-of-a-kind card.

But Loperfido, apparently wishing to own a piece of his own merchandise, is offering up the ability to make a deal with whoever pulls the card.

“We recently discovered that MLB Rookie Joey Loperfido wrote “DM me” on the back of his 1/1 Debut Patch card,” Topps wrote in a post. “This inscription, of course, was Loperfido’s attempt to find the card and buy it back when it’s pulled by a collector.”

“You can come to Thanksgiving too!!” Loperfido commented on the original post, sharing his intentions.

Loperfido was born in Philadelphia but attended high school in New Jersey. It’s safe to say his family’s Thanksgiving is still likely under a two-hour flight from Toronto, but you’d have to pull the card pretty quickly to get an invite to Loperfido’s holiday meal.
