Big Star Sandwich Co. to open new Vancouver location

When a restaurant says it has the best anything, we tend to take notice. So when we heard Big Star Sandwich Co., which claims to serve “the best damn sandwich you’ve ever had,” was opening a new location in Vancouver, we naturally got excited.

Signs for the new sandwich destination have popped up at 802 W Broadway, the former location of the Japanese restaurant Ta-Ke Don. It’s also just a block away from the soon-to-be-opened Peaked Pies location.

Big Star Sandwich is best known for its hearty sandwiches made on rustic Filone, a bread that is like a cross between a ciabatta and a baguette. The chain also cooks all of its roast beef for 13 hours in-house.

It currently operates eight locations across Metro Vancouver, with its only other Vancouver spot being at UBC.

An opening date has yet to be shared for Big Star Sandwich Co. Vancouver.

In 2017, the spot was graced with a visit from Liam Neeson.

When the sandwich chain’s New Westminster location heard the star was in the area, it changed its signs out front to read, “Liam Neeson eats here for free” on one side and “Come in and get TAKEN away by our sandwiches,” on the other — a play on one of the actor’s most well-known action-suspense flicks.

A few hours later, who showed up but Neeson himself, who was kind enough to pose for a picture with staff.
