Vancouver’s food scene has been popping off when it comes to award season. Whether it’s restaurants receiving Michelin stars, being ranked among the best Italian eateries in the world, or serving the best pizza in all of Canada, there are plenty of great award-winning spots in and around the city. Now, another list has given Vancouver’s food scene some major recognition.
La Liste, an awards program based in France, released its annual selection of the Top 1000 restaurants around the world, and four Vancouver spots made the list.
The highest ranking Vancouver restaurant in Vancouver was Published on Main, which got a score of 79.50.
Following Published on Main were L’Abattoir (78.50), Hawksworth (77.50), and St. Lawrence (76.50).
But don’t think this is a one-off because these restaurants are no strangers to the limelight. Published on Main and St. Lawrence are Michelin-starred restaurants, and Hawksworth has been named the best hotel restaurant in North America multiple years in a row.
What is the Methodology?
La Liste touts itself as the “most selective global guide of restaurants, pastry shops, and hotels” and uses a rigorous scoring process to make its final selections.
Reviews from over 1,000 guidebooks and trusted publications are compiled in a database and given a standardized grade between zero and 100. To determine the legitimacy of each of the guidebooks, several thousand chefs are also consulted to determine how trustworthy they are, creating a “trustworthy index.”
The average scored by each restaurant and hotel is then calculated using the standardized grade and weighted by each source’s “trustworthy index.” Online customer reviews are also integrated into the result, with a 10% weighting in the final score.
