Woman seriously injured after being struck in South Surrey intersection

A 60-year-old woman has serious injuries after she was hit by a vehicle near the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre in Surrey Wednesday afternoon.

The Surrey RCMP says it responded to reports of a “motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian” at the corner of Martin Drive and Southmere Crescent around 2:00 p.m.

“A 60-year-old female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at his location. She was transported to hospital with serious injuries,” said Corp. James Mason in a statement Wednesday.

He added that the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.

Police say all traffic along Martin Drive, north of 16 Avenue and south of Southmere Crescent, is closed until further notice. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, and police say congestion can be expected.

Surrey RCMP Traffic Services is investigating the incident.
