Woman receives non-life threatening injuries after being attacked by bear in Squamish

The Conservation Officer Service says it is investigating after a woman was attacked by a bear in Squamish Friday Night.

The woman was walking her dog along a trail south of Bailey street just after 8 p.m. when the dog ran away into some thick brush.

It was then that she notice two black bear cubs nearby. She was then charged suddenly by the mother bear, who then ran off.

When Conservation Officers responded, they were unable to find the bears. They placed warning signs in the area and remain on scene as they investigate the situation.

The woman was given treatment for non-life threatening injuries after the attack.

“The public is urged to take precautions in case of wildlife encounters, including travelling in groups, ensuring pets are leashed and carrying bear spray,” the service said in a post on social media.
