Woman escapes abduction near Abbotsford trails: police

Abbotsford police are looking for a suspect after an attempted abduction in Sumas Mountain Regional Park last week.

The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says a woman reported being approached around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 by an unknown man who she says tried to pull her into his vehicle.

Police say fortunately she was able to break free from the man and escape.

The suspect is described as a 5’9″ man in his late 20s to early 30s, with a medium build, and short blond or orange hair. He was reportedly wearing a white shirt and driving a modern white pickup truck with stock tires and suspension lifts.

Police are now urging hikers to take precautions in the area.

“The Abbotsford Police Department would like to inform the public to increase vigilance and use caution when hiking the trails in and around the area of Sumas Mountain Regional Park.”

If you have any information or footage to submit to the police about the incident, the AbbyPD is asking you to email Det. Nathan Perrey at nathan.perrey@abbypd.ca
