Video of Surrey sex assault suspect shared by RCMP

The Surrey RCMP is releasing video of someone they say is a “person of interest” in a stranger sexual assault investigation.

Mounties say a woman reported that she was woken up by a man who was groping her in her home just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

The victim screamed for help, at which point the suspect left.

Officers and K9 units swept the area in search of the suspect but were unable to find anyone. A canvass of video surveillance in the area turned up some footage showing a person of interest.

The suspect is seen walking into frame near some vehicles while seemingly talking on the phone. After pacing around for a short amount of time, the man is seen stopping to look down at his device.

The man is described by police as being in his early 20s. The suspect is between 5’7″ to 5’10″ tall with an average build, and had a long black beard.

The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone with information, or anyone who may have seen him between the hours of 11 p.m. on July 19 to 3:30 a.m. on July 20, to contact investigators at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-106141.
