Olympic breaking gold medallist Phil ‘The Wizard’ Kim returned home to Vancouver Sunday to meet fans and showcase moves from his historic triumph.
The b-boy, also known as Phil Wizard, went to the PNE for his first fan appearance since his win at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he became the first person ever to win gold in the breaking competition category.
Kim won against France’s Danis Civil 23-4 in the final battle on Aug. 10.
“I’m still processing. I’m just kind of like taking it as I go. So I don’t really know what’s going on,” Kim told CityNews on Sunday.
At the fair, Kim demonstrated his moves, signed autographs, and took pictures with fans.
He says he hopes he can encourage others with similar passions to pursue the sport.
“I have a lot of people coming up to me saying they put their kids into breaking — and that was the goal going into this,” said Kim.
One fan at the PNE said breaking has a long history in the city, and now she says Kim has “put Vancouver on the map.”
Labour Day marks the last of the 17-day run for the PNE Fair. Monday night’s final concert features Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, and All-4-One taking the stage in the “I Love the 90s Tour.”
