Vancouver mayor set to give update on Kitsilano Pool

There is set to be some news about Vancouver’s beloved Kitsilano Pool.

Last month, the Vancouver Park Board said it would be closed for the summer as it continued to leak massive amounts of water, even after off-season repair work.

A news conference has been called for 1 p.m. Friday, led by Mayor Ken Sim.

The city’s director of facilities management and operational excellence, the manager of capital maintenance, and the director of recreation will also be on hand with the mayor.

Kitsilano Pool first opened in 1931 and was replaced with its current design in 1978.

The Park Board had previously shared that the beloved pool was so badly damaged by the 2022 king tides, it would leak 30,000 litres an hour due to cracks in its recirculation pipes.
