Trapped dog rides outside of Vancouver SkyTrain

A small dog went for the ride of its life Wednesday when the doors of a Vancouver SkyTrain closed on its leash between the pet and owner.

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police says the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at Nanaimo Station — and on to 29th Avenue Station.

“Somehow, during the boarding process, the doors closed while the owner was inside the train, but the dog was still on the outside,” Const. Amanda Steed told 1130 NewsRadio.

“With the dog being stuck on the outside of the train, the train started moving.”

During the ride, Steed says another passenger helped pry the doors apart so the owner could hold the six-pound dog directly. When they arrived at 29th Avenue, a SkyTrain attendant helped to get the door all the way open.

“Luckily, the dog wasn’t injured, and they had to remove him from from the doors, and the owner was very grateful,” said Steed.

She says the incident serves as a reminder to keep pets in carriers on the transit system.

“For the safety of other passengers. And, most importantly, your furry friend.”
