Trafficking investigation nets numerous weapons, $280K worth of drugs: New West police

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says its street crime unit has seized a number of weapons and several kilograms of drugs during an investigation into drug trafficking that started in 2022.

Throughout March of this year, the NWPD’s street crime unit executed multiple search warrants, leading to the seizure of firearms and stun batons, as well as drugs with an estimated street value of $280,000, the department says.

The drugs are believed to be MDMA, cocaine, and fentanyl.

Police say they are recommending numerous charges for trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and several weapons offences.

“Our Street Crime Unit has worked extremely hard on this file to disrupt a drug trafficking cell in New Westminster,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.

“We want to assure the community that we take illicit drug trafficking extremely seriously, given the harm these drugs can have.”

The NWPD is asking anyone with any information about drug trafficking in the city to call investigators at 604-525-5411.
