The RCMP will be answering questions about public safety in White Rock Tuesday night, a day after homicide investigators arrested a 28-year-old suspect in a fatal stabbing along the community’s waterfront.
At a news conference late Monday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) again made no direct link between last Tuesday’s deadly attack and another stabbing two days before that left a victim recovering from a deep wound to his neck.
“This remains a very active investigation,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “We recognize the public’s concern for safety and want to provide updates as soon as possible.”
The White Rock RCMP has scheduled a townhall meeting to address the community’s concerns in the wake of the violent incidents.
“We know that community members have concerns about safety in White Rock following the two recent events on our waterfront,” said the detachment in a post on X.
“Police will be available to answer questions regarding public safety … we will be outlining our initial response to enhance public safety, and discuss our enhanced policing operations that we engage in every summer.”
The meeting, which is open to the public but not the media, will take place from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre.
Meanwhile, investigators are still asking for the public’s help, calling on any more potential witnesses to come forward.
They are also seeking anyone who might have relevant information on the attacks or suspects, or anyone with dashcam video from around the White Rock waterfront the night of Tuesday, April 23.
