Tickets available to state memorial for late B.C. premier

Anyone wishing to attend the provincial state memorial service for former Premier John Horgan is being asked to reserve a free ticket.

The B.C. government announced its plan to hold a service last week. The memorial — which is open to the public — will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Q Centre Arena in Colwood, a city west of Victoria.

In an announcement Monday, the province says tickets will be required, but are available at no cost. Tickets are limited to two per person, and may be reserved on the Victoria Shamrocks website. Guests must be seated by 12:45 p.m., but are asked to arrive at 11:30 a.m.

Those looking to book tickets without using the Internet can call the Office of Protocol at 250-387-1616.

The service will reportedly include religious components, musical interludes, and words of remembrance.

“Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin, Premier David Eby and other dignitaries will be in attendance,” the province said.

The former B.C. premier and ambassador to Germany died at the age of 65 in November after his third battle with cancer.
