Thousands without power after storm whips through Lower Mainland

More than 8,200 BC Hydro customers woke up without power Wednesday morning after a massive wind and rain storm whipped through the Lower Mainland.

As of 6 a.m., the largest outages were in Vancouver and West Vancouver, with more than 1,000 customers in the dark on Bowen Island.

Parts of Burnaby, Chilliwack, and Richmond were also affected.

At the height of the storm around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, more than 30,000 were without power in Metro Vancouver, with another 10,000 on Vancouver Island.

BC Hydro says crews are on-site working to restore power to its customers.
