Mounties in Prince George say a suspect is in custody after a violent car theft at the Prince George International Airport Saturday afternoon.
Prince George RCMP say officers responded to reports of a car-jacking on Airport Road just before 1 p.m.
Witnesses told police that the man allegedly pushed an elderly woman out of a parked car, and attempted to push the elderly driver out an open window.
“When that was unsuccessful, the suspect accelerated away from the airport with the driver’s door still open,” Mounties said in a release Wednesday.
Police say the vehicle crashed not far from the airport, causing the driver “to be ejected.”
The suspect continued to drive the vehicle until it broke down shortly after.
A 29-year-old Prince George man was arrested near the vehicle, and the driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“Multiple charges have been approved in this matter including robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, assault, and driving while prohibited,” said Corp. Jennifer Cooper.
The Prince George RCMP says the man is in custody until his next court appearance.
