The Surrey Police Service says a suspect has been taken into custody after a morning stabbing in the city hospitalized one person Friday.

According to the SPS, around 9 a.m., officers were called to a housing complex on 104 Avenue near 149 Street in the Whalley neighbourhood.

“On scene, a 50-year-old male was located with serious injuries to his chest,” SPS spokesperson Ian McDonald explained.

“Surrey Police Service officers quickly located a 34-year-old male suspect nearby and took him into custody.”

Police say the victim was taken to hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition.

An active investigation into the incident continues, McDonald adds.
