Second brother sentenced in homicide of New Westminster man

A second man has been sentenced in connection with the murder of a New Westminster man in 2021.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Thursday, Ryan Crossley has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole eligibility for 14 years. He had been convicted of second-degree murder in September 2023.

Ryan’s brother, Curtis, had also been facing a second-degree murder charge after the pair’s arrest shortly after the fatal stabbing of Robert Powshuk.

Curtis pleaded guilty to manslaughter in late August last year. He was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years with no chance of parole.

Police called the stabbing “graphic and disturbing.” After a violent, targeted run-in with the brothers, the 51-year-old victim walked into a coffee shop on New Westminster’s Columbia Street, bleeding heavily and seeking medical attention. He did not survive his injuries.

Investigators say they were able to find the brothers with the help of video surveillance.
