School bus involved in serious crash near 100 Mile House

The BC RCMP says there was a serious crash involving a school bus Friday afternoon on Highway 97 north of 100 Mile House.

BC Highway Patrol’s Corp. Melissa Jongema confirmed to CityNews that the reported bus involved was a school bus.

Mounties say the highway at Butler Road in the Lac La Hache area is currently shut down to all traffic in both directions to allow first responders to safely attend the scene.

1 person struck by vehicle at same location

BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) says it’s currently responding to a motor vehicle incident in the area, followed by a second incident in which a person was struck by a vehicle at the same location.

BCEHS says the first call about the first incident came in at 12:55 p.m.

It says multiple resources were dispatched to the scene, including, “11 ambulances and response units with primary care and advanced care paramedics, 7 air ambulances with critical care paramedics, and multiple supervisors and area managers.”

Police are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice to allow crews to work.

More to come.
