Rock fall injures climbers near Stawamus Chief

The Squamish RCMP says two climbers suffered significant injuries after a rock fall near the Chief Thursday.

According to Squamish Search and Rescue, crews were called out to the Bulletheads, a well-known route on the Chief, around 1 p.m.

“While they were initially assisted by a nearby group of climbers, our team deployed a HETS technician just above their location,” Squamish SAR said in a social media post Thursday.

“Due to the tricky positioning of the party, we also had members of our rope team on standby, prepared to establish a secondary access point if needed.”

The climbers were successfully long-lined out, SAR says, adding they were transferred to the care of paramedics.

“We would like to send a special shout-out to the pair of local climbers who came to assist the injured party while they waited to be evacuated,” Squamish SAR said.

The RCMP echoed their thanks to both members of the public and first responders.
