Richmond victim robbed by ‘up to 8 masked people’: RCMP

The Richmond RCMP is seeking witnesses to an alleged robbery that took place in the Broadmoor area at the beginning of the month.

On June 1, shortly after 10:45 p.m., mounties say they received a report of an alleged robbery at a plaza on No. 3 Road.

Police say the victim told them he was attacked by “up to eight masked people” while leaving the plaza and walking towards a bus stop on Ryan Road.

He alleges he was struck in the head with a weapon and had his backpack stolen.

The victim claimed that two of his attackers then ran towards a nearby business while the rest left in a white vehicle.

Richmond RCMP Cpl. Adriana O’Malley says, “Fortunately, the victim did not suffer any significant physical injuries but was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.”

Police say they recovered the backpack near General Currie Elementary School.

Richmond RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS) is asking anyone with information about the incident to reach out.

If you witnessed the attack, may have dashcam footage, or may have observed a white Hyundai sedan in the area between 10:50 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., GIS is asking you to call 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2024-17171.
