Mounties in Richmond are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver of a pick-up truck who allegedly hit a cyclist and then drove away earlier this month.
The Richmond RCMP says that around 7 p.m. on Oct. 5, its officers came across a man “who was on the ground screaming.”
“The man advised officers he was riding his bicycle Southbound on Gilbert Rd, crossing the intersection of River Rd, when he was struck by a white pick-up truck,” Mounties said in an update on Tuesday.
The cyclist told officers that the truck turned left onto Gilbert Road from River Parkway when it hit him on his bike.
“The truck was last seen driving Southbound on Gilbert Rd. The cyclist was transported to a local area hospital and treated for minor injuries,” the Richmond RCMP said.
“Unfortunately, the cyclist was unable to obtain the licence plate of the vehicle and no immediate witnesses were located in the area. Richmond RCMP have canvassed the area for video surveillance but to date none has been located.”
Mounties are asking anyone who was in the area between 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. to review their dashcam footage. They’re also asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact police at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2024-31734.
