Police remain at Port Coquitlam home for 4th-straight day after suspicious death

Investigators were still at a Port Coquitlam property Friday, marking the fourth-straight day of an investigation that was prompted by what the RCMP described as a “suspicious death.”

Mounties have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances around what happened at the home on Tuesday, with few details shared.

“Investigators are still on scene at the residence on Burn Road, this is expected to take a significant amount of time,” the Coquitlam RCMP shared in an email Friday.

“As this is an ongoing investigation we are unable to provide additional details at this time.”

Burns Road has seen on and off closures for days between Dominion and Prairie avenues.

The RCMP said Thursday its members were “executing a search warrant,” adding it had “liaised with” the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. IHIT has also confirmed to CityNews that it was made aware of the situation but that it had not been deployed to the scene.

The ongoing police presence, complete with an Emergency Command vehicle and individuals wearing full-body white hazmat suits, has had the rumour mill churning for days.

One neighbour tells CityNews the Burns Road property has been no stranger to trouble in the past.

“I’ve been dealing with this for the last three years, I’m kind of sick of it. I leave for work at 2:30 in the morning and they’re in the back and they’ve got grinders going and their whole backyard’s lit up and they’re racing around on their dirt bikes all over the place, in front of the yard here,” a man who lives near the home said Friday.

He says police are often seen at the house, adding, “last year, around the same time, they had this all blocked down again.”

At one point Friday, animal control officers were also seen at the property.

The Coquitlam RCMP previously told CityNews officers were called to a home along Burns Road just before 8 a.m. on April 16.

This prompted the closure of Burns Road between Prairie and Dominion avenues for several hours, with the road reopening later Tuesday, around 2 p.m.

“There is no risk to the public,” the RCMP said.

Video from the area at the time of the initial call showed dozens of police vehicles at the home.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2024-9498.
