Police investigating ‘suspicious and very troubling’ disappearance of Nanaimo woman

Mounties say they are investigating the disappearance of a woman who was last seen in Nanaimo more than 10 months ago, calling the situation “suspicious.”

Sherry Corrigal was last seen in September 2023 in the downtown area. Since that time, the RCMP says it has followed up on tips from the public, conducted numerous searches and interviews, and reviewed CCTV footage.

“For Sherry to be missing for upwards of 10 months is totally out of character for her,” said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.

“As a result, this is suspicious and very troubling. Investigators have been and are continuing to utilize all available resources to locate Sherry.”

In November, Mounties said Corrigal is of no fixed address and described her as 5 feet tall and 90 pounds with long dark hair. As well, she has a tattoo of her initials on her wrist.

The RCMP says friends of the 22-year-old woman are planning a search in rural south Nanaimo on Saturday.

“While it is not a police lead search, officers involved with the investigation will be on site throughout the day to assist where necessary,” police said in a news release.

Anyone with any information about Corrigal is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP directly — and not post to social media — by calling the non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
