Penticton city councillor arrested and charged with multiple sex offences

A Penticton city councillor was arrested Thursday and has been charged with sexual assault.

James Miller has been charged with two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault of a person under 16.

Police from Sarnia, Ontario, say the alleged offences took place back in 1989.

“These offences occurred during a period when the accused volunteered as a youth basketball coach,” Sarnia police said in a news release.

“The victim, now an adult, was a young person at the time.”

The Sarnia Police say Miller was arrested by the Penticton RCMP.

“He will be appearing by video in the Sarnia Court on today’s date,” they said Thursday morning.

According to the City of Penticton website, Miller was elected to council in 2021. He is currently the managing editor of the Penticton Herald.
