Pedestrians in Mission shot at with paintball guns: RCMP

The Mission RCMP says it’s received several reports of people being shot at with paintball guns, and officers are now trying to identify those responsible.

The first instance was reported on April 18, when a business along Lougheed Highway near Haig Street was shot at by a paintball gun during the overnight hours. Police say this triggered the business’ alarm.

More recently, the RCMP says an employee of a business on 1st Avenue near Welton Street reported being shot in the head with a paintball gun by someone in a passing vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

About 20 minutes later, Mouties say a man who was walking along 1st Avenue near Grand Street was also shot at.

On the same day, around 7:30 p.m., police say a youth was hit by a paintball in the area of Grand Street and 7th Avenue.

“These incidents of violence are completely unacceptable, and we want to ensure that no one else gets hurt,” said Corp. Harrison Mohr.

The Mission RCMP says it has identified a vehicle involved in the shootings as a four-door Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle has red and black aftermarket wheels, with a black front grille with either red lights or red accents.

Mohr says police are hoping someone recognizes some of the “unique features” of the vehicle.

“We also understand that multiple people were in the car at the time, and we would encourage those people to do the right thing and come in to talk to us as soon as possible,” he added.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 604-826-7161.
