Pedestrian hit by car in Surrey dies of injuries: RCMP

A pedestrian has died of their injuries after a crash in Surrey Friday evening.

The Surrey RCMP says officers were called to the area of 61A Avenue and 144 Street just after 8:30 p.m. for reports that a pedestrian had been hit.

The 23-year-old man, as well as the driver of the Mercedes GLK 250, were taken to the hospital.

Mounties say they have determined that the Mercedes also crashed into a Ford F150 that was stopped at the light in the intersection, causing the truck to roll over.

“A Porsche and Honda Civic, also stopped at the red light, sustained damages. The occupants of the other vehicles involved sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene,” the RCMP said.

According to investigators, speed is believed to have contributed to the crash. The RCMP says the driver of the Mercedes has since been released from the hospital, adding she is cooperating with police.

Police are asking anyone with information, as well as dashcam footage from the area of the crash, to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-51286.
