Outdoor pool in Coquitlam won’t open until 2025

An outdoor pool in Coquitlam won’t be opening this summer due to construction delays.

In a release, the city says Mundy Park Pool — formerly known as Spani Outdoor Pool — is now expected to open for the 2025 swim season and not this year, as previously planned.

“The City is disappointed the pool will not be opening in time for the summer season and acknowledges the impact this delay has on our community members,” it said.

“In light of this delay, the City is offering a range of fun, free outdoor activities and reduced-cost programs throughout the summer.”

This includes free admission at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool and water play pop-ups, including inflatable waterslides and slip’n’lides. As well, the city has reduced the price of a summer child and youth pass from $25 to $10.

Coquitlam residents will also have extended access to the local YMCA.

The city says it is renaming the pool to reflect its location in the municipality’s largest urban forest, Mundy Park.

The pool is over 50 years old and needs to be replaced to meet current sustainability stands, the city says. Renovation work began in the spring of 2023. The new pool will allow for double the number of drop-in swimmers and 50 per cent more swimming lessons.
