Mounties in North Vancouver have arrested a suspect after an an elderly person was pepper sprayed during a Facebook Marketplace sale in 2023.
On Jan. 24, the victim was attempting to sell their in Victoria Park phone through a deal struck on Marketplace.
During the exchange, officers say the suspect pepper sprayed the victim, tried and failed to take their phone, and ran off.
Last week, the RCMP executed a search warrant and arrested a suspect at a home.
He was released until his next court appearance, set for July 10.
The RCMP says anyone making an in-person transaction via Facebook Marketplace or other online services is encouraged to do so “at a safe zone outside the [RCMP detachment building], located at 147 E 14th St., North Vancouver.”
