North Van RCMP investigates reports of wire hung across bike path by Ironworkers

Mounties in North Vancouver confirm they have received calls and are investigating reports of a wire strung across a bike path on the North Shore.

Social media posts in local cycling groups describe a wire about four feet high being strung up across a path on the east side, right after riders come across the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

In one case, a cyclist says the person in front of them “was able to duck” before the wire, which “hit his helmet.”

The motive behind the wire placement is not known, but the person who posted the warning to Facebook says they feel “this was a deliberate act.”

While they say they removed the wire, they are urging other cyclists to take extra care and to “slow down” as they exit the bridge, noting “the culprit could replace it.”

The North Vancouver RCMP confirms in an email to 1130 NewsRadio that it is looking into the matter.
