New Westminster crash closes E. Columbia under Pattullo Bridge

A crash in New Westminster has shut East Columbia in both directions under the Pattullo Bridge, with major delays expected Friday evening.

Police say they responded to reports of a collision on Columbia before McBride around 4 p.m.

“We’re asking the public to avoid the area and advising that the road will be blocked for several hours,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said just after 5 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation at this time. It’s unclear if anyone has been hurt.

“It is getting toward the end of the work day, rush hour’s [starting]. We do anticipate there will be traffic coming through the area. That’s why we’d like to give a public announcement to encourage people to avoid the area,” Leaver said.

Front Street is also closed for construction in both directions, meaning you cannot detour off that road.

You can take Royal Avenue as an alternate route.
