The New Westminster Police Department is turning to the public for help to identify a suspect after a man was allegedly attacked along the Quayside Boardwalk Wednesday evening.
The NWPD explained Thursday the victim was attacked from behind “by a stranger armed with an edged weapon.”
“Police rushed to the scene but were unable to locate anyone matching the suspect description,” police said.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s who has short black hair, a slim build and was wearing black sweatpants and no shirt at the time of the incident.
Police say the victim suffered minor injuries from the assault.
“Investigators believe witnesses to this attack may have fled the area prior to police arriving on scene. Police are now appealing for those witnesses to share with police what they saw and for anyone with dash-cam footage in the area to contact police.”
Of particular interest to police is any dash-cam or video footage witnesses may have from Quayside Drive, Inn at the Quay, and behind the Boathouse Restaurant between 7:10 p.m. and 8 p.m.
“This is a disturbing incident, and we are thankful the victim only sustained minor injuries,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We encourage anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has relevant footage to come forward. Your information could be crucial in our investigation.”
Anyone with information about the assault is being urged to contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
