A Canadian telecommunications company has purchased the naming rights for the new amphitheatre being built on the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) grounds.
Freedom Mobile has signed a 12-year agreement with the PNE — which is owned by the City of Vancouver — giving the company the right to name the venue, as well as sponsorships at the PNE summer fair and the Halloween Fright Nights event.
“The amphitheatre will undoubtedly become a hub of entertainment in Vancouver, promising to be one of the most remarkable venues on the entire West Coast of North America once it’s completed,” said Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim.
“This is just the start of the work we are undertaking to be bolder and more creative to generate revenue for the City.”
Freedom Mobile says it will take public input into consideration when naming the amphitheatre, with people being invited to vote on four possible names: Freedom Mobile Amp, Freedom Mobile Arch, Freedom Mobile Rise, and Freedom Mobile Place.
Construction on the new site, which is being designed by Vancouver-based Revery Architecture, is expected to be complete in summer 2026. The project has been in the planning stages for several years. According to the PNE, the project will showcase British Columbian and Canadian engineering and building products while maintaining environmental sustainability standards.
The building’s concept was revealed in April 2023. It will be able to hold around 10,000 people.
The venue will be the site of the PNE’s Summer Nights Concerts as well as other performances.
