Nanaimo attacker wearing bra on head fought off by martial-arts-trained victim

A man’s martial arts training came in handy after the Nanaimo RCMP says he was able to fight off and “incapacitate” a suspect who reportedly tried to stab him.

Mounties say it happened in a wooded area Thursday night while the man was walking his larger dog. According to police, the 44-year-old confronted by another man “wielding two knives.”

Police say the suspect tried to stab the dog walker, who in turn was able to subdue the man and take his weapons. During the scuffle, investigators add the dog also lunged at the suspect and bit him in the leg.

The suspect was able to get away. Police say they are trying to locate him, adding foot patrols by police canines and officers haven’t been able to track him down.

The suspect is described as being between 30 and 40 years old with shoulder-length brown hair. He was wearing dark clothes and “had a bra on his head,” police say, noting he left the area with a red suitcase and a red mobility walker.

The motive for the attack isn’t clear.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 250-754-2345.
