Murder charge laid in Surrey stabbing

A 24-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing in Surrey last month.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the Surrey RCMP was called to the area of King George Boulevard between 64 and 68 avenues around 11:50 p.m. on July 23 for reports of a fight.

When they arrived, officers found Jason Richard Gill with stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of paramedics and officers to save the 47-year-old, Gill succumbed to his injuries at the scene, IHIT says.

William Alexander Clippingdale was charged on Tuesday, Aug. 20, in connection with the incident.

Investigators believe Clippingdale and Gill “were known to one another and that this was an isolated incident.” Initially, IHIT said “the motivation for this tragic incident” was not known.

IHIT is asking anyone with information who has not spoken with police about this matter to contact the Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
