Multi-vehicle crash at Massey Tunnel, NB lanes to be closed for ‘hours’

A serious collision on Highway 99 just before the Massey Tunnel has closed most northbound lanes.

The Delta Police Department says the closure will be in place for “several hours.”

Traffic is currently getting by in the counterflow lane only. Traffic along Highway 99 is backed up from Ladner Trunk Road.

The DPD tells CityNews at least three cars are involved, however, it is unclear if, or how many, people are injured.

Acting Insp. James Sandberg says that while it is now a BC Highway Patrol case, police are in the process of closing on-ramps to Highway 99 northbound. Police will clear the traffic that is already on the highway, and then will shut all lanes heading north.

The DPD is advising all drivers to avoid the highway and to take the Alex Fraser or Pattullo Bridge as an alternate route.
