Massive fire at Langley restaurant leads to partial building collapse; crews continue to battle blaze

Fire crews continue to battle a raging fire at a restaurant in downtown Langley City.

The front of the building at 20559 Fraser Highway has collapsed and fire crews are concerned the roof may collapse.

The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. this morning. The fire has sent a large plume of thick black smoke into the skies above Langley. Callers to 1130 News Radio report haze as far as South Surrey.

The Langley RCMP are blocking off a section of the roadway and there are concerns the smoke contains toxic chemicals including asbestos. Residents in the area are urged to keep their windows and doors closed and wear a face mask outdoors.

There’s no word yet on how the fire started or if anyone has been hurt.

This is a developing story.
