Marathon road closures to affect drivers throughout the weekend

Drivers around Vancouver this weekend may run up against a challenge.

The BMO Vancouver Marathon starts bright and early Sunday morning, but road closures begin Saturday at 5 p.m. at the start line in the Riley Park neighbourhood — by Midlothian Avenue from Dinmont Avenue to Clancy Lorange Way.

If you are heading to the airport Sunday morning, use Main Street to Marine Drive as an alternate route.

Expect delays Sunday due to rolling road closures from 6:30 a.m. on the roads in parts of South Cambie, Oakridge, Fairview, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, UBC Point Grey, Kitsilano West End, Coal Harbour, Chinatown, Yaletown, and False Creek until about 1 p.m.

For information on the route and a list of detours, drivers can check out the BMO Vancouver Marathon website.
