A B.C. man suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a grizzly bear near Elkford, B.C.
The BC Conservation Officer Service said the attack occurred on Thursday at around 2 p.m. while the man was hunting in the East Kootenay backcountry.
They said the man was able to scare the bear off by shooting the animal. He then called first responders for help.
The man was airlifted to a hospital in Calgary with “significant injuries”. As of Friday, the service says the man remains in hospital and is expected to recover.
Crews didn’t know where the bear was at the time of the victim’s report, but conducted a sweep of the area.
The service says the bear was found shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, having died from its injuries in the attack.
