Man facing arson charges after Surrey house fire

The RCMP says a man has been charged in relation to a house fire in Surrey last week.

Mounties say that on Oct. 18, the Surrey Fire Service and RCMP officers responded to a structure fire on 122 Street near 78 Avenue.

“Upon arrival our officers observed that one person was detained by the Surrey Fire Department. Custody of the detained male was transferred to the responding officers,” the police said at the time of the incident.

In an update on Thursday, police say a 29-year-old man has now been charged with one count of arson causing damage to property, and two counts of assault with a weapon.

The accused has been remanded in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
