Man charged for ID forgery lab in Richmond

Charges have been laid against a man accused of operating a forgery lab in Richmond, police say.

The Richmond RCMP says its Economic Crime Unit executed a search warrant in December of 2022 that led to the discovery of evidence “consistent with a sophisticated forged identification lab.”

In early May, Mounties say a number of criminal charges were approved against Ameer Ayube, including identity theft, trafficking in identity information, and possession of forgery instruments.

The RCMP says the investigation into the lab exemplifies the success of when members of the public report incidents of fraud.

“We urge all victims of fraud to come forward and report any incidents. Your information is crucial in helping us protect and serve our residents effectively,” said Staff Sgt. Patrick Damgaijian.

A warrant for Ayube’s arrest for the listed charges is still outstanding.
