A man is in hospital with serious injuries after a series of unfortunate events at the Vancouver South Transfer Station.
The man was reportedly trying to extiguish a fire on top of his truck when he fell, and was run over by another vehicle.
Matt Trudeau with the Vancouver Fire Department says the events started around noon Wednesday.
“The driver of the truck, tried to extinguish, was up there, received burns, and then fell and was injured from that,” said Trudeau.
But the man’s troubles didn’t end there.
“He was run over by another truck.”
Trudeau says the man was sent to hospital with burns and a broken femur.
The other driver stayed on scene long enough to be present when crews arrived to pull the man out from under the truck. Trudeau says he doubts that there was any criminal intent involved.
“It was a complete fluke that a guy happened to fall down in front of someone who was backing up. Just a bad course of events that was happening.”
The cause of the fire is unclear at this time. Trudeau says WorkSafeBC employees arrived at the scene to investigate.
