Man arrested after gun shot through Chilliwack home

A man has been arrested after a gunshot was fired through a wall in a Chilliwack home, entering a neighbouring home early Friday morning.

The Chilliwack RCMP says it received a report of the incident from a townhouse on Vedder Road near Keith Wilson Road shortly before 6 a.m.

“It was reported that the round came through the wall from a neighbouring unit,” Mounties explained.

Calls to 1130 NewsRadio around 8:30 a.m. reported a heavy police presence in the area. Posts to social media describe Vedder Road as blocked off between Keith Wilson Road and Watson Road at the time.

Police say no one was injured, but precautionary measures were taken and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) was called in.

“To ensure public safety, the surrounding residential units and businesses were evacuated and traffic in the immediate area was re-routed,” Mounties said.

Around 10 a.m., police say a suspect was arrested “without incident.”

The RCMP says the man remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
