We now know when Canadians will be able to watch the limited series about the disturbing murder of Vancouver Island girl Reena Virk.

Disney+ says Under the Bridge will be available in Canada on May 8. The series is based on the book by Rebecca Godfrey.

A trailer for the series was released last month, with Hulu announcing Under the Bridge would be available on its platform in the U.S. as of April 17.

Reena was 14 when she was murdered in Saanich in 1997. The 14-year-old was the victim of a swarming attack by a group of girls who invited her to meet under the Craigflower Bridge along the Gorge Waterway.

Six girls were convicted of assault causing bodily harm and sentenced to up to one year in custody.

Warren Glowatski and Kelly Ellard, who has since changed her name to Kerry Sim, were convicted of second-degree murder after they followed the limping girl away from the fight and drowned her in the Gorge.

Sim was 15 at the time and was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2005.

Reena Virk’s family has dedicated their time since the girl’s death to speak out against bullying. In the years since her murder, schools across B.C. have launched numerous anti-bullying and inclusion programs.
