Langley soccer player injured in off-campus Ohio college shooting

A soccer player from Langley who was shot and seriously wounded in the U.S. is recovering in hospital.

Nathan Demian, a 22-year-old former Whitecaps youth player who now plays and studies at Ohio State University, was caught by a stray bullet.

A statement from the OSU Athletics Department says he was an innocent bystander, not involved in any kind of altercation, and is not a suspect.

The Columbus Division of Police says it happened at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Police say two vehicles were chasing each other, off-campus, when a person in one of the vehicles shot at the other, inadvertently hitting Demian.

Demian was rushed to the hospital seriously wounded, but is now recovering with his family by his side.

The young Buckeyes player had earlier been with the top-seeded team as it won a match that saw his top-seeded team advance to the NCAA College Cup.

The Whitecaps Academy has posted to X, saying their thoughts are with Demian, his family, and the Buckeyes community.
