Intoxicated Lynn Canyon cliff jumper rescued by North Vancouver Fire

Just days after a person drowned in North Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon, a man had to be rescued over the weekend after cliff jumping nearby while intoxicated.

District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Chris Byrom told CityNews that even though it’s warm outside alcohol is illegal at the park.

“We had an individual who was unfortunately intoxicated, who was jumping off the cliff, and we had to rescue him and bring him out,” he said.

“It’s a family place, and there are a lot of families in the area and alcohol is strictly prohibited.”

Byrom says that while the canyon is a beautiful place to be on a hot day, it’s also a treacherous place to swim.

“Everyone’s walking into the canyon to swim and enjoy themselves and cool off. It’s still an extremely dangerous place to be,” that’s for sure.

On Wednesday, a man in his 20s drowned while cliff jumping in the popular swimming spot.

Police and multiple other first responders received a call around 5 p.m. about a swimmer in distress.

“It was reported that a young man who was cliff-jumping at Twin Falls had jumped and was underwater,” said RCMP Const. Mansoor Sahak on Thursday.

Sahak says the man did not know how to swim, had never cliff-jumped before, and drowned. He says first responders were able to locate the man but weren’t able to pull him out for 30 minutes. Sahak says the man was airlifted to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
